Dan's Elk

Yes, by the pictures I sent, you can tell that I was very successful on the Elk hunt.  I took the bull on opening day at 8AM.  He was about 100 yards from where I took the other bull that I mounted and the spike I shot last year.  It has been a productive spot the last 3 years.  It took me 4 hours to gut, quarter and debone it, and then 6 hours to haul it out.  Since I was by myself, I had to do it all with no one to help me.  (I will not do that again)  I found a young kid with horses who helped me haul it about 1/2 mile (in exchange for the meat) but his horse didn't cooperate and I ended up hauling it 2/3 of the way up the mountain and then 4 miles back to my camp.  It was the best and worst back to back experiences I have had in a 12 hour period.

Once I take it to taxidermist, I won't see it until next September, so I have taken a lot of pictures and Video.  I may send Douglas Jr. some more pictures to put on the Web page.  A lot of pictures.

It happened just as I dreamed and prayed about all year and I could not be more thankful.  Dan
